Bridges are a permanent fixed method of tooth replacement. An artificial tooth is maintained in position supported by natural teeth on either side of the space. The Maryland bridge bonds to the back surfaces of the teeth adjacent to the space, where as the fixed bridge requires the supportive teeth to be cut into a particular shape. A range of materials can be used. These are porcelain, ceramic reinforced
polymer, porcelain bonded to metal and more recently cast ceramics.
